Trips to Corsica

Corsica is still a relatively unexploited island in the Mediterranean, with a lot to offer for a wonderful holiday!

1 / 26

The island offers picturesque beaches, lush hills, exciting hiking trails, fascinating culture, and charming rustic architecture.

Despite its relatively small size, taking about three hours to drive from north to south, Corsica produces its own wines, olive oils, and delicacies such as sausages and cheeses. It even boasts its own local beer brands.

Corsica is part of France, but has a long-standing independence movement. However, as a tourist, this sensitive subject is unlikely to impact your experience. Traveling in Corsica is truly delightful and full of memorable experiences!

The landscape is diverse, and it's recommended to rent a car to explore freely. On your road trip through Corsica, you'll travel from straight coastal roads, through winding mountain villages, to charming seaside towns. There's plenty to look forward to!

West Coast

In the southwest lies Ajaccio, the island's capital and the birthplace of the legendary Napoleon Bonaparte. This adds a historical flavor to the city, which features a substantial statue in his honor and a museum dedicated to the French leader. Ajaccio is a cozy port city with a genuine old town filled with small squares, narrow alleys, fascinating shops, and restaurants. In the Ajaccio Bay, you'll also find the seaside resorts of Porticcio and further south, Propriano. Along this coastline, you can enjoy both sandy beaches and rocky bays.

East Coast

Corsica's east coast likely boasts some of Europe's most beautiful beaches! The water is a stunning turquoise, the sand soft between your toes, and it's shallow, allowing for peaceful relaxation. Porto-Vecchio is the largest city on the east coast. Its old town sits beautifully on a hill, and its streets are lined with charming restaurants, ice cream parlors, and small boutiques. At the southernmost point lies Bonifacio, probably the most photographed town on the island. The old houses in Bonifacio are dramatically perched on a cliff rising high above the sea. It's well worth a visit!

Getting Here

The main airports are located in Ajaccio in the southwest and Bastia in the north. You can also arrive by ferry, with connections from Nice and Marseille to Bastia, and from Sardinia to Bonifacio.

Recommendations

Rent a car and embark on a road trip—it's the best way to experience all the island's beauty. The roads are generally in good condition, though often narrow and busy. Learn a few French phrases. Most locals speak some English and often warm up if you start a conversation in French. Purchase a parasol to have in the car. The island features many magnificent beaches to explore, and not all offer beach services. This highlights the preserved and unspoiled nature of Corsica.
