Trips to Dresden

One of Germany's most beautiful cities is Dresden, which gained higher status in 1485 when the Albertine Wettin family decided to establish their residence there. The city flourished in the 18th century, becoming a cultural center adorned with many magnificent buildings. However, on the night between February 13th and 14th, 1945, nearly all these buildings were completely destroyed in a major bombing raid by British and American air forces.

For almost 50 years, the old cultural heritage was neglected. Today, there is finally a dedicated effort to rebuild the historic city center with meticulous restoration work.

Visit the splendid Frauenkirche, which has been reopened through international collaboration. And outside on Neumarkt, new houses have been constructed in an old style, so the blocks around the church look as they did before the war.

Meissen, known for its porcelain manufacturing, is located just outside Dresden.
