Trips to Flensburg
Flensburg is located just south of the Danish border and has also been part of Denmark in the past. It is situated by the Flensburg Fjord, which is ideal for sailing. Flensburg is one of the German cities that escaped virtually unscathed during World War II. The city later became the seat of Nazi Germany's last government (May 2-23, 1945) under the leadership of Grand Admiral Karl Dönitz. Newly renovated pedestrian streets stretch through the city center with elegant house facades, numerous shops, and cafes. There are also some characteristic courtyards that now house restaurants and small shops. A little gem is Rote Strasse with its courtyards. The city celebrated its 725th anniversary as a merchant city in 2009. Flensburg has one of Europe's best handball teams.
