Mainland or the Islands?

In Ao Nang, there are beaches for all tastes. Choose between different beach options if you want to stay on the mainland. Railay Beach is also very popular – although located on the mainland, you can only get there by boat. If you want to experience paradise, take a short longtail boat trip to the unforgettable beaches on the nearby islands. Try the sand and excellent snorkeling spots on popular Chicken and Poda Islands, or take an excursion boat out to the Phi Phi Islands.

Ao Nang and Beyond

The charm of Ao Nang is that most amenities are within walking distance. The village slopes gently towards the sea and consists of a main street that separates most hotels from the beach. Just before the sun sets, families and couples stroll along the shoreline, enjoying the descending sun reflected in the wet sand.

As the lights turn on in the evening, the street becomes lively. The air is filled with the scent of fragrant flowers and soon mixed with enticing aromas from the small street food stalls. Restaurants set up and are filled with hungry patrons.

You can also choose to stay on Railay Beach, about fifteen minutes by longtail boat from Ao Nang. Here, the selection of restaurants and shopping is very limited.

Take a Break from Relaxing...

If you tire of lounging on the beach, there are plenty of activities available. Within a convenient taxi distance, there are several temples to visit. Wat Tham Seua (Tiger Cave Temple) is one of southern Thailand's most famous temples located inside a long limestone cave. There is excellent snorkeling on several of the nearby islands. Join a day tour kayaking through mangroves, or climb the limestone cliffs on the mainland or the islands.

If you have time, go on an exciting excursion to Khao Pra National Park.

Culinary Delights

The main street is Ao Nang’s lifeline. The part along the sea is particularly pleasant. Here, you’ll find small shops, travel agencies, bars, and restaurants. You can find numerous stores offering textiles, music, and games at reasonable prices.

The restaurants offer a good selection of Thai food, local pizzerias, and places serving international cuisine. Try the spicy local fish soup or the mild Massaman curry. On the outskirts of the village, you might even find familiar fast-food outlets.

• Kruathara Restaurant – Known for perhaps the best seafood dishes in the entire region, attracting visitors from far and wide for a memorable dinner.

• Enjoy together with the locals! There is a stream with fresh water forming small pools where you can cool off, popular among the local population.

• The morning rush to the longtail boats at the beach. A true spectacle best enjoyed from the shade with a cup of coffee in hand.

• The aroma from street grills in the evening.

GOOD TO KNOW

Local buses run from the city center to Ao Nang – travel time is about 30 minutes. From the airport to the city center, only taxis are available.

Combine Ao Nang with a stay on the nearby islands for an extended holiday experience.
