Trips to Maleme

On the northern coastline of Crete, between the popular tourist resorts of Platanias and Chania, lies the small village of Maleme. The village is known for its peaceful and family-friendly atmosphere. Unlike its neighboring villages during peak season, Maleme is not as heavily impacted by tourism. Instead, the village retains its traditional charm, and the few visitors who come are warmly welcomed by the locals. Here, you can enjoy a relaxing and comfortable vacation in the sun. Along the coast, a beautiful pebble beach stretches out, making the water crystal clear. The underwater environment is stunning, filled with colorful fish—perfect for snorkeling and diving. Platanias is about 6 km to the west, while Chania, the island's largest city, is approximately 18 km to the east. You can easily reach these towns by a regular bus service or choose to rent a car in Maleme.

Various memorials and monuments have been erected in Maleme, commemorating this war-torn time. The German War Cemetery is a site where German soldiers who fell on the island are buried. The cemetery is located on the outskirts of the village center. Another notable site is the Ekklisia Agios Antonios church, centrally located.

The nature on Crete is unique, and a visit to the White Mountains Protected Forest is highly recommended. There are several hiking trails to choose from, and on your walk, you'll pass through a forest landscape with cliffs where you can pause and enjoy the stunning views. Another excursion option is to take a boat trip along the coast of Chania, heading towards the island of Agii Theodori to discover the island's nature and the vast blue sea.
