Trips to Rostock

From Rostock, you enter a city rich in history and modernity. This Hanseatic city, once a cosmopolitan hub with a thriving university and economy 600 years ago, has transformed dramatically following the destruction it faced during World War II. It now stands as one of the most modern Hanseatic cities. The cityscape is characterized by buildings from the German Democratic Republic era and replicas of historical houses. Kröpeliner Strasse, a beautifully renovated pedestrian street, offers a variety of shops.

In the heart of Rostock, you'll find some of the city's most significant churches: St. Mary's Church, home to an astronomical clock from 1472, and St. Peter's Church, whose tower provides a fantastic view over the old town and city harbor. The historic town hall is located at the New Market, and the main building of the university is nestled among the pedestrian streets.

Rostock is home to two maritime museums, one housed on a cargo ship. The city's zoo specializes in polar bears.

Kühlungsborn Located 25 km northwest of Rostock, Kühlungsborn is one of Germany's oldest seaside resorts, boasting a long beach promenade and numerous spa hotels. Established as a resort in the 1860s, it is a popular summer destination for beachgoers and cyclists. The town features a beautiful beach and nature along the Baltic Sea.

Bad Doberan 15 km west of Rostock lies Bad Doberan, a traditional spa town. In the Heiligendamm district, about 6 km northwest of central Bad Doberan on the Baltic Sea coast, you'll find a stunning sandy beach. Founded in 1793 by Grand Duke Frederick Francis I, Heiligendamm attracted many visitors from European nobility throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, including the Russian Tsar family.
