Usedom, with its 445 km², is the second-largest island in Germany, alongside its Polish sister island, Wolin. It boasts the most sunshine hours in Germany.

Just off the island's coast, the legendary city of Vineta is said to lie beneath the waves. Although this has been the popular belief, scientists speculate that this once-richest city in the world may lie underwater near Barth. What is known for sure is that trade made Vineta's inhabitants wealthy, then extravagant, and finally unfaithful. Today, this city is brought to life every summer in a vibrant spectacle on stage in Zinnowitz. The Usedom Music Festival offers numerous concerts throughout September, providing stylish and atmospheric entertainment in the island's spa towns.
